This is a 6-month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 3, 2025 with possible extension and/or permanency

Aveley Secondary College (SC) opened in 2018 and is a large secondary school catering for Year 7-12 in Perth’s Swan Valley. The College is recognised as a school of choice with high expectations and standards, a progressive approach and commitment to excellence. Teaching and learning are a focus with Explicit Direct Instruction, the signature pedagogy, supported by a rigorous behaviour curriculum and systems to support conditions for learning in the classroom. The staff are supported through extensive professional development and coaching in these key areas.

Aveley SC's collaborative approach to pedagogy has been recognised as best practice through the Grattan Institute and teaching staff have been filmed by the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) as examples of best practice. A central feature of the college is strong teams with an extensive repertoire of curriculum resources to support our staff. As alumni of the Fogarty EDvance program, the school has visitors from across the state and country visiting our classrooms to see our teachers in action.

The Role

We are seeking a Science Teacher who is highly effective in engaging and motivating students and creating an effective learning environment. They will ideally be committed to our vision and the school’s strategic plan. The College has a robust performance and development culture based on our Professional Learning Communities.

The successful applicant will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Interpersonal skills and capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Capacity to build good relationships with all students.
  • Strong teaching and classroom management skills, including Classroom Management Strategies.
  • Commitment to our signature pedagogy of Explicit Direct Instruction.
  • Knowledge of the Science curriculum and capacity to plan curriculum including scope, sequencing, and lesson design collaboratively.
