The Role

Hedland SHS is currently seeking a highly experienced, dynamic, innovative, and proactive Teacher/Year Coordinator to join our whole school Student Support team.

The Year Coordinator works collaboratively with the onsite allied support team and wider school staff and community to promote the wellbeing of each student. They support the school in maintaining a positive learning environment where each students’ physical, social, intellectual, and emotional development is fostered, and our students thrive. 

In collaboration with the Deputy Principal and Student Support Managers, you will ideally review behaviour support processes and lead the implementation of a streamlined framework that is applied effectively and consistently by the whole school. Leading your year group, you will have the opportunity to proactively and promote a sense of belonging for all students, work restoratively to resolve conflict, and participative decision-making resulting in improved community relationships and whole school regular attendance.

Depending upon the year group led by you, you will coordinate transition programs, organise activities, rewards and functions. You will provide counsel to students, parent/carers and staff in relation to academic, behavioural, attendance, social and emotional concerns. You will develop, implement, and monitor programs (both in-school and extra-curricular) to maximise student participation. Leading the development and implementation of documented plans to support student engagement and behaviour through all school settings.

The Ideal Teacher

The successful applicant will ideally possess an ability to implement change at a school wide level and have a deep belief that a positive school culture will support every student to consistently display positive and respectful behaviour. As an excellent classroom practitioner, you will support other staff to refine their classroom management skills within a positive behaviour support (PBS) environment. We highly value applicants who are trauma-informed and possess the ability to self-regulate and manage escalated situations with clarity and reason resulting in positive educative outcomes.

As a highly organised practitioner, and with your exceptional collaborative skills, you will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to lead case management for your cohort. Your proven ability to support student leadership will ensure your cohort learns effective communication, active citizenship, community collaboration and decision-making through the various student leadership groups you may oversee. As a life-long learner, you will ideally be a reflective practitioner with a thirst for knowledge, refining your skills, striving to improve processes and practices and improved outcomes.

Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment. The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers

Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
