This is a 36 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 3, 2025 with possible extension
Jigalong is an Aboriginal community located 170 kilometres east of Newman on the edge of The Great Sandy Desert. On the western side of the Rabbit Proof Fence, this is the Pilbara community which gained international recognition with the 2002 film of the same name. Jigalong Remote Community School (RCS) is a K-12 school and part of the Remote Teaching Service. It is located just 2 hours drive east of Newman, where all essential services can be accessed. The school enjoys excellent relations with the Martu community.
Currently, the school has a team of 6 dedicated teachers, in addition to several AIEOs and EAs, a school officer, gardener, and a cook. Jigalong RCS has well-established routines and processes that facilitate a positive and safe environment for our students. Within the community of Jigalong, there are many service providers, including an excellent health clinic, a permanently staffed police station, a shop, a youth centre, and a ranger station. All teacher's houses are located in the same area, away from the centre of the community. It is a quiet and safe place to live.

The Role
Jigalong RCS is seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher to work with our Year 2 and 3 students. You will be responsible for teaching across the curriculum with a focus on EAL/D literacy and numeracy skills. All teachers deliver a Talk for Writing and Heggerty program so experience with these or similar explicit instruction models will be advantageous. Jigalong RCS is working towards a two-way Science curriculum. As such, a willingness to participate with Martu community members and to organise and deliver on-country learning is essential.
To be successful in this role, you will be an enthusiastic and cheerful teacher who prioritises student well-being and participation. Staff are committed to creating a culturally safe and trauma informed environment. We value applicants who are flexible and able to adapt quickly to evolving situations. Along with engaging students in innovative and inclusive activities, you will value developing and fostering relations with families and the wider Aboriginal community to improve your students' educational outcomes.
